Body Shapes FAQ

What are the main body shapes?

For women, the common shapes are hourglass, pear (triangle), apple (round), inverted triangle and rectangle, with top and bottom hourglass as variations. For men, the usual five are trapezoid, inverted triangle, rectangle, triangle and oval.

How do I find out my body shape?

Measure your bust or chest, waist, high hip and hips, then enter them into the body type calculator (women) or the male body type calculator. It compares the differences between the measurements.

What is the most common female body shape?

Studies using these definitions find rectangle, pear and apple shapes far more common than a true hourglass, which only about 8% of women meet.

Can your body shape change?

Weight change, muscle gain, pregnancy and age can shift your measurements and move you into a neighboring shape, but your bone structure, such as shoulder and hip width, stays the same.
